25-year Reunion Planning Kickoff Meeting

The members of the Class of 1985 are kicking off the 25-year reunion planning with a meeting on Thursday March 5th at 7:00pm in the Red Dragon room in the Saint Albans Shoney's.  All class members are encouraged to attend.  Bring your ideas and appetite for a time of planning and fellowship with your classmates.

I hope that everyone made it thru the holidays safe and sound and are looking forward to 2009.  I know that it has been some time since you have seen activity on our Yahoo group and the class website.  I am hoping to change that in the coming months with two project that some of you may be interested in participating in.

First, the Saint Albans High School Alumni Association is starting to plan the 100th Anniversary of Saint Albans High School.  The alumni association is working to revive the SAHS Alumni website.  I have been working with the alumni association officers on the requirements for a new website and evaluting several hosting providers.  Expect more information on that in the next month.

Second, it is about 1-1/2 years until our 25-year class re-union.  Although I have kept up with a few of the planners and participants in the 20-year, I have not heard from many of the people as to whether or not they would be interested in having a 25-year class re-union.  If you are interested in participating in the planning for the next re-union or should like to express your desire to have one, please send an e-mail to SAHS85Reunion@SAHSClassof85.com.

SAHS Class of 1985 has a new Yahoo Group

The Saint Albans High School Class of 1985 has a new Yahoo group.  Due to issues encountered with having a public group, a private group, SAHSClassof1985, has been created.  Everyone that was a member of the current group has been sent an e-mail inviting you to the new group.  Once they join the existing group, a moderator will remove you from the old group.

This group will allow us to use the features of the Yahoo that were limited to us because of the exposure of confidential information to outsiders.  I have already populated some of the features we will be using such as photo albums, database, links of interest, polls and calendar events.

Attention all Class of '85 Red Dragons

Our SA RED DRAGON Football Team is now 5-0 and ranked #1 in the State!!!

On Friday, October 6th, the Homecoming Parade will begin at 6pm.  The Red Dragons will be taking on Greenbrier East on Saturday, October 7th.  The game will begin at 2pm, just like old times!!

It means alot to the team to have the stands filled, so come out and root on what very well may be one of the best teams we've had in years!!!

Several Red Dragons are meeting at the River's Edge Cafe at 11:30am prior to the game on Saturday.

Come on out and cheer on this great team and catch up with your fellow Class of '85 Red Dragons at the same time!

First Red Dragons gathering of 2006

The first Red Dragons gathering of 2006 will be Saturday, March 4th at 2:00pm at Mayberry's on 6th Avenue in St. Albans.  Here is a Mapquest link for directions.

In addition to food and fellowship, there will be a meeting to kickoff the events for the year.  The follow will be topics for discussion:

• Treasury report
• SAHS85 Yahoo group (current and future use)
• SAHS85 Website (current and future use)
• Red Dragon event planning (6-12 month timeframe)
• SAHS Class of 85 involvement with SAHS Alumni and Red Dragon projects
• Discuss regular meetings and events
• Determine next meeting date

Greetings Fellow Red Dragons!

It is hard to believe that the first month of 2006 is already in the past. It has been over six months since we celebrated our 20-year class reunion. Not a week goes by that I do not reminisce about that weekend and our high school years. Like many others, I find myself not wanting those re-kindled friendships to fall by the wayside, overshadowed by other priorities. Many things have changed in each of our lives since the reunion. Whether it is Melissa's move to Sedona, Teri's upcoming wedding, Brenda's job change or my new position with IBM, each of us has some new experience in our life that would be great to share with friends.

So, here is what I would like to propose:

I would like schedule the first of what I hope will become a regular gathering of Red Dragons for one of the following dates:

• Friday or Saturday - February 17th or 18th
• Friday or Saturday - February 24th or 25th
• Friday or Saturday - March 3rd or 4th

This will be a very informal affair, most likely at a local establishment where Red Dragons congregated during and after high school. One location that has been suggested is Mayberry's on 6th Avenue in St. Albans.  Although we are not committed to this location, it does offer an appealing decor. One other location that has been suggested is BMW grill in Cross Lanes. Although it is a new location, it does offer a back room for a more private appeal.

I would like to reiterate that nothing is set in stone. This is merely a suggestion to re-kindle a regular meeting of friends. I would like to use this meeting as an opportunity to discuss what we would like to do going forward.  Many suggestions had been presented since the 20-year reunion.  For me, the fellowship of the reunion, sparked the desire to again be part of something larger than myself.  Many events have been suggested includings an annual picnic (at a location somewhere in our beautiful state), a Red Dragon cruise, a Myrtle Beach Bash and the planning stages for our 25-year reunion. Another topic for discussion is the future of the Yahoo group and this website.

I would like to encourage everyone to review their calendar and provide me some feedback as to what dates would work for them. Also, consider the locations suggested and provide a few of options of your own. The more locations we have to consider the more likely we are to have something that appeals to everyone.

I am looking forward to seeing each one of you again!
